The BSAA Scholarship

Applications are open and the 2023 deadline for the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA) scholarship is March 31. This scholarship, now named for BSAA founder Robert (Bob) Lambrix, BHS’57, is a need-based award of $2,500/year, to be used to purchase textbooks or other required academic materials. The award is provided for four years, as long as the recipient remains in school on a full-time basis. The original award was $1,000/year/student; the current amount and ability to present more than one award in a given year is thanks to the generous support of many BHS alumni.

  • The applicant must be a college-bound graduating senior at Brighton High School in Rochester, NY, with a grade point average of at least 3.0.

  • This is a need-based award.

  • The applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited two- or four-year educational institution.

Past BSAA Scholarship recipients have been profiled in the BSAA’s 13th Corner newsletter. This year’s recipient(s) will be featured in the newsletter and honored at the 2023 BSAA/BHS Alumni Hall of Fame Recognition Gala on June 2. Applications are available in the BHS Guidance office and here in Word and here as a PDF.

The Hart-Thomas Scholarship

The Hart-Thomas Scholarship, founded in 2020 by BHS’71 alumna Ruth E. Thaler-Carter, is an award of $1,000 for a graduating senior, presented annually through the Brighton Schools Alumni Association (BSAA). The scholarship is in memory of Brighton High School (BHS) teacher Elizabeth Hart, whose influence on BHS students — through her AP English and Critical Reading & Writing classes, among others — was a substantial contribution to a lasting standard of excellence in writing, editing and proofreading, and 12 Corners Middle School English teacher Louise Thomas, who instilled a lifelong understanding of, respect for and ability in grammar, punctuation and usage in her sixth-grade students.

Thanks to generous support from fellow BHS alumni, three graduating BHS seniors have received Hart-Thomas Scholarships to date in recognition of their writing skills and intent to become published authors and were profiled in the BSAA’s 13th Corner newsletter.
